Sumo Paint, like Photoshop Express and PiZap, is one of the few self-contained online image editing site and programs that boasts its own in-house community in addition to its image design and creation and photo editing features. Nevertheless, unlike Photoshop Express and other online image editing sites, Sumo Paint lacks the photosharing and social networking site integration functionality that makes using sites like flauntR, Picnik and Photoshop Express so convenient.
As stated in its title, Sumo Paint is geared largely towards paint and image design functions, providing a palette of tools that should be familiar to users familiar with software-based paint programs. And, to Sumo Paint’s credit, it has more shape and layering choices than other paint-oriented online image editing sites and programs.
For traditional photo and image editing Sumo Paint has several tabs that are organized by function range. Users looking to adjust levels, brightness, saturation, color balance, temperature or automatically optimize need look no further than the “Adjustments” tab, the same goes for layer-related tasks and functions, filters, layers, image proportions etc.
One design conceit that should be noted is Sumo Paint’s continual display of color spectrums, which is ubiquitous in software-based paint programs but seems neglected in online sites.
Sumo Paint is fairly limited in its import and export options. Users can open photos and images saved from their computers or from a site URL, but given the direction most online image editing sites and programs have taken towards integrating with photosharing and social networking sites, this deficiency is slightly more conspicuous.
As for exporting, finished images and photos can only be emailed, saved to your computer or your Sumo Paint account.
Sumo Paint’s user resources largely come in the form of a single HTML document that organizes different tools, tasks and features. Most of the topics come complete with visual representations, definitions and step-by-step instructions or explanations.

For paint functionality and image design and creation, Sumo Paint is nearly as capable and equipped as its software-based counterparts. However, for traditional photo editing and advanced importing, exporting and site integration, users might be better off using another online photo editor, such as flauntR, Picnik or Photoshop Express. Still, users with image design and paint functionality aren’t likely to find many programs as expansive and comprehensive in those areas as Sumo Paint.
